Coach Ron Pattyn
Ron Pattyn began training and competing in weight lifting at a young age, eventually ranking an all-natural 9th in Canada. He achieved his greatest success, however, in organizing national level events, and training other athletes (including his wife, Johanne Pattyn, a former Canadian Champion, once placed 5th in the world). Looking for something to keep him busy following his weight lifting career, Ron turned to martial arts under Jocelain Dubois and eventually gained his Kyokushinkai Karate 2nd Degree Black Belt. Ron was introduced to grappling by Bravado Jiu-Jitsu’s Sylvain Moroney (now a Black Belt under the legendary Royler Gracie and David Adiv) and is a Thai-Ju-Jitsu Black Belt under Canadian MMA pioneer Nigel “Iron Panther” Scantlebury. He teaches Freestyle Jiu-Jitsu based on his knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Japanese Judo, and Western Wrestling.
